NZD to EUR 2019 Forecast

Similar to the NZD GBP cross, the NZD EUR exchange rate has been and will continue to be influenced by Brexit developments. So what are the major banks predicting for the rest of 2019 amongst all the political uncertainty from Brexit? This article presents the "big 4" bank outlooks and is updated regularly.

Bank forecasts for the NZD to EUR in 2019

The NZD to EUR exchange rate peaked in early December around 0.61. After a minor dip over the Christmas/New Year holidays, the NZD/EUR has recovered slightly to 0.5947. This means the $1.00 New Zealand Dollar will only buy you just under €0.60 Euros.

Going forward, most of the major banks are expecting the NZD/EUR to decline slightly by the end of the year. This will be driven by an improved performance in the EUR and slight weakness in the NZD.

The Commonwealth Bank (CBA) has an expectation that the NZD to GBP rate will decline towards 0.5800 by the end of the year.

In 2019, BNZ (subsidiary of NAB) is expecting the NZD to GBP rate remain flat by the end of the year at 0.5700.

Same as NAB, Westpac expects the NZD to GBP rate to fall to 0.5600 by the end of 2019.

How does a weaker NZD EUR affect me?

A falling NZD EUR exchange rate isn’t great for New Zealanders living in Europe. New Zealanders who have moved to, let's say, Paris, will see a decline in overall spending power if they are servicing their lifestyles with NZD payments.

If you want to have some certainty for your money transfers even when the New Zealand dollar is expected to remain weak, you can check out our currency calculator for the best rates from different money transfer providers.

With the NZD EUR expected to weaken this year, New Zealanders might see an increase in European tourists. However, it's probably not a great time either for New Zealanders to travel overseas this year.

But if you have the travel bug, you should book for the first half of the year where you might be getting a slightly better NZD EUR exchange rate than in the latter half of the year.
